What is Generative AI Technology

Generative Artificial Intelligence

Generative Artificial Intelligence

Generative AI technology is a type of artificial intelligence that is used to generate new data or content. This can be done either by creating new data from scratch, or by modifying existing data to create new versions of it. Generative AI is often used in creative applications, such as generating new images or videos, or creating new music. It can also be used for more practical applications, such as generating realistic simulations of data for training purposes, or creating new versions of data that are more easily processed by machine learning algorithms.

Thus, Generative AI technology is broadly defined as artificial intelligence (AI) that doesn’t just process preexisting data sets, but creates wholly original text, images, audio, videos and code.  This type of AI is often used to create synthetic data sets that can be used to train other AI models.  It has never looked better, sounded crisper or been easier for the general population to access.

Examples

One popular example of a generative AI model is the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). GANs are made up of two neural networks: 1) a generator network and 2) a discriminator network.

  1. The generator network creates new data.
  2. The discriminator network evaluates the generated data and determines whether it is real or fake.

The two networks then compete with each other, with the goal of the generator network being to create data that is indistinguishable from the real data.
